The piglet was born in the Fengzhang village of Xiping township. The family of the mother sow flipped their shit when they saw it, but their son likes it and has been feeding it. Aside from the obvious cranial deformities, its hind legs are longer than its front, leading the baby hopping rather than walking to get around. The neighbors are curious to see what it will look like as it ages. I hope it can last!

Deadspin gave a bit more thorough explanation about the banning of blacks and Mongols:

Beijing is serious about street-level enforcement of trafficking and prostitution (if you don’t see it on the street it doesn’t happen!) and this affects some Africans and Mongolians who, accurately or not, are profiled by police as perpetrators of these two vices.

That said, if there was indeed a directive issued concerning blacks and Mongolians it was probably more like: “Don’t let African drug dealers or Mongolian prostitutes into your bar,” a statement echoed by some interviews done by our man Beijing Boyce. We’re not sure what this would mean for blacks or reputable Mongolians in Beijing, many of whom already deal with some not-so-subtle racism from the locals. So it’s not that we question a disregard for racial sensitivity; there’s certainly that. After all, there is enough information available that leads us to believe enforcement figures approached bars and told the owners to monitor their black and Mongolian patrons. We just don’t think that any secret, official ban was issued.

So there you have it. It’s more they’re targeting the problem and some people are getting caught in the crossfire. I hope. In other Olympian news, Iraq will not be participating in the games this year. Their Olympic committee’s 7 picks were ignored and replaced instead by the government’s own favorites. Weird. The International Olympic Committee says boo-hiss to this disregard for hard-won placement, so banninating the Iraqi team was the only thing to be done in such a short time frame. Too bad. Some of the original members of the appointed Olympic committee for Iraq have been missing for a few years. Hm.

i was looking at this fun post on deadspin by Drew Magary about getting in with your lady to be able to watch football, and he links to his old blog, Father knows Shit. He reminds me of Maddox. The blog had a short stint in 2006 — example post about music taste being destroyed by kurt cobain, and he now writes for Kissing Suzy Kolber, which i now realize i should be reading even though it’s mostly about sports.

i’m not saying… i’m just sayin’ is all.

The South China Morning Post says that nightclub owners in the Sanlitun district were told by government officials to not serve people who are black or Mongolian. This area is by the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing… you know, that place for the next Olympic games. Posts have been popping up on the internets based off of that initial article. Beijing Boyce seems to think it’s not valid, but the comments below seem to state otherwise. One commenter states,

Most of the drug pushers in Sanlitun were blacks. Most of the hookers in places like Maggies were Mongolians. Maggies has been closed and the pushers pushed off the street. I am inclined to think that bar owners were told not to allow these workers to migrate their trade into the bars of the area. But how does a simple bar worker know the difference between a Mongolian tourist and a Mongolian hooker, or a Ugandan tourist from a pusher. the answer is, he doesn’t. So, according to my theory, someone in the chain of authority - be it PSB, local police, bar owners or whoever, has decided the safe way is to ban everyone. In true Chinese Whispers form, this gets transmuted into FACT. Methinks there’s a gulf between the original edict and the SCMP story.

How real is this? Beats me. But damn. it’s believable.
