Cool Dad Tries a Cool Death. Fail: Kid is Involved

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

On December 12th at the Russo house in Bethlehem Township of Pennsylvania, Steve Russo relayed fun sex stories while sipping on vodka at his 17-year-old’s party. For high schoolers. The high school aged party-goers received both the stories and the drinks, and photographic evidence of the social hijinks were found on Facebook. By the cheerleading squad’s coach. Ouch. Guess he won’t be bartending any more sweet parties in Scranton.

Turns out a few members of the school’s squad were present at the party and were encouraged to dance on a “stripper” pole. Too bad they were 14-16 years old. too bad the father was encouraging them to get on the pole and take their tops off.

Russo was charged with furnishing alcohol to Freedom High School students after he allowed his 17-year-old son to host a party at his home on Dec. 12, police said. He coaxed girls wearing cheerleader outfits to dance around the stripper pole in his basement, police said.

He is charged with nine counts of endangering the welfare of children, eight counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and nine counts of corruption of minors in connection with the party. lehigh valley

The story started circulating at the end of February. The latest: Russo tried to kill himself and his four-year-old in his garage with car exhaust after texting his girlfriend that it was all her fault. The kid’s grandfather found them before they died… Russo isn’t allowed near the kid anymore.

Hockey Update

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

The kid that died from heart failure earlier in the hockey year, Alexei Cherepanov, has now been confirmed to have been found blood doping. The final word, from Hockey New’s The Canadian Press:

Russia’s federal Investigative Committee said a chemical analysis of the samples allowed experts to conclude “that for several months Alexei Cherepanov engaged in blood doping.” There was no elaboration, and a spokeswoman at the committee refused to comment further.

The statement also said Cherepanov in his final year suffered from myocarditis, a condition where not enough blood gets to the heart, and should not have been playing professional hockey.

The club’s medical team might carry legal liability in the episode, the statement added.

“A row of gross violations was committed by the medical brigade helping A. Cherepanov,” the statement said. Among them, doctors arrived on the scene a full 12 minutes after Cherepanov collapsed, and the battery on the defibrillator to attempt shock Cherepanov’s heart back into life was drained, the statement said.

This is dumb. What the hell was he using anyway?

New York Rangers’ Prospect Alexei Cherepanov Dies at Game

Monday, October 13th, 2008

This is really, really sad.

Nineteen-year-old Alexei Cherepanov died this afternoon (evening in Moscow) after accidentally colliding into teammate Jaromir Jagr. Cherepanov skated to the bench, had a seat, leaned back, and passed out. The medics couldn’t revive him at the ice nor at the hospital. Drafted by the Rangers in the 2007 first round — 17th overall pick! — the kid was playing in the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League) rather than be at the Ranger prospect camp since the KHL season begins earlier. he was due to begin Rangers training next season. It’s been updated within the last few hours that the collision had nothing to do with the cardiac arrest.

A nineteen-year-old had a heart attack while playing hockey.

holy exploding lungs, batman! …batm– oh no!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Some bats have been getting nailed by wind turbines, but not in the typical bloody mass way birds get canned. Folks at the University o Calgary collected 188 bats in Alberta… 90% of them had internal trauma without damage to their outsides. They’re lungs busted. It seems the turbines’ drop in pressure directly by them makes the batty lungs pop, similar to a diver coming to the surface too quickly after a deep dive. The bats are dying from the bends, and they don’t “see” it coming. The turbines are screwing with their echolocation.

This part of the article in NewScientist that got my attention most:

Bats eat nocturnal insects including agricultural pests, so if wind turbines affected their population levels, this could affect the rest of the local ecosystems. And the effects could even be international. “The species being killed are migrants,” says Baerwald. “If bats are killed in Canada that could have consequences for ecosystems as far away as Mexico.”

Well. Crap. One solution to the banged-up bat debacle would be to increase the minimum speed requirement to get the turbines turning.

Eight Belles Got Second Place in the Race

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A race horse got euthanized at the end of the Kentucky Derby because she broke both of her front ankles. The doctors that checked her said she would not have been able to walk again and that it is fucking painful to have just one ankle be broken. People are PISSED about this. PETA is going after the 20 year-old jockey for doing his job and freaking the shit out of him.

That’s not the only thing that’s being talked about with this death: “they” are now checking the horse’s body for steroids. Eight Belles was big for a filly, leading some to point fingers at the trainer. Weird. His response is along the lines of a wtf face. She was the first filly since 1999 to run in the Derby.

Barbaro, the 2006 Derby winner, was put down last year at three years old due to an injured hind leg. Had he recovered he may have been worth 30 million dollars.
