NHL Draft for the 2008-09 season nears!

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Really that’s all i have to say. I’m excited to see who gets who and who gets made fun of. Since the Pens were number two this season, something tells me we won’t get the top picks. And that’s okay. Because we rock.

deadspin of course with their reference here

rookie card pose? probably.
swing batter

This little kid could outrun a lot of people. On one leg. Back in his diaper years Adam Bender had his leg removed due to cancer. Since then, he’s been rocking it regardless of being monopedal. At eight years old he’s playing baseball, soccer, and football. He’s the catcher for his little league team. His leg must be nothing but muscle. Rock on, little dude. Check out the pictures at the bottom link. I would not want to face this kid running into home plate. His game face is intimidating.

Not-ice Rinks in Japan

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

hot damn!

Mitsubishi Plastics came up with a resin-based plastic that’s easy on the wallets of rinks. Plastic not-ice! Kind of awesome. It seems to work just fine with regular ice skates. I want to know how the blades handle that kind of surface after a few skates, and then after a month or two. Hmm hm. deadspin.

Another Photographer Gets a Boo-Boo From a Jav

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

OWWWWW from standard.net.

“It was pretty embarrassing.” he said. “I just felt like a jackass. I wasn’t scared. You can tell right away when you’re hurt really bad. I just knew I wasn’t really injured.”

Ryan McGeeney, a photographer for the Standard-Examiner, was taking pictures in the field. In the part where the javelins go to get measured. Where he’s not supposed to be. He didn’t do it on purpose! He wasn’t paying much attention and suddenly a giant metal pole was through the skin of his knee.

Mr. Lucky only pierced his skin and had thirteen stitches to close it. Don’t worry, he took a picture of it during the jav’s stay in his knee.

Ryan McGeeny's pierced knee skin

oh right and read it on deadspin.

Eight Belles Got Second Place in the Race

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A race horse got euthanized at the end of the Kentucky Derby because she broke both of her front ankles. The doctors that checked her said she would not have been able to walk again and that it is fucking painful to have just one ankle be broken. People are PISSED about this. PETA is going after the 20 year-old jockey for doing his job and freaking the shit out of him.

That’s not the only thing that’s being talked about with this death: “they” are now checking the horse’s body for steroids. Eight Belles was big for a filly, leading some to point fingers at the trainer. Weird. His response is along the lines of a wtf face. She was the first filly since 1999 to run in the Derby.

Barbaro, the 2006 Derby winner, was put down last year at three years old due to an injured hind leg. Had he recovered he may have been worth 30 million dollars.

people on the internet are destined for hell

Have you seen the “not even once” ads about meth? They pop them on billboards and buses to scare the crap our of drivers with “hypothetical” situations meth users find themselves in when they snap out of their stupor for five seconds. It’s pretty srs business being hooked on drugs. Some folks decided to make these billboards a little sportier and skankier. Check them out here. This is my fave:

i think it’s the Burgh training. heads up from Barry from deadspin.
